What classes should I take my senior year of high school?

superkatie asked:

My school is on a block schedule, which means there are four 1 1/2 hour long classes each day, and classes change each semester. I am a high achieving student for the most part, and am devoted to the arts. Please help me choose classes that will challenge me, but still allow me to have an enjoyable senior year.

This is what I was thinking:
AP Humanities (year long course)
Chorus 4 (year long course)
Tech Theatre 1
AP Spanish
AP Calculus AB
AP US History

I’m considering only taking honors US history, since Humanities also counts as a history course and is a lot of work. I’m also thinking about taking an online class over the summer to get one of my classes over with (if I do that I would take Trig, and I wouldn’t take Calc during the year, but rather a visual arts course)

What do you suggest? Am I aiming too high?
HELP, please.
These are the classes I have taken in the past and the grades I have received (or am expected to receive) in them.

Freshman year:
Honors Geometry (A)
Honors World History (B)
Honors English 1 (A)
Honors Earth Science (B)
Chorus (A)
Fundamentals of Technology (A)
Health (A)

Sophomore Year:
Honors Algebra 2 (A)
Honors Civics and Economics (B)
Honors English 2 (A)
Honors Biology (A)
Chorus (A)
Creative Writing 1 (A)
Spanish 2 (A)

Junior Year:
AP English 3 (B)
Honors Pre-calc (B)
Honors Chemistry (A)
Honors Spanish 3 (A)
Honors Spanish 4 (A)
Chorus (A)
Theatre 1 (A)
I need 8 classes.

& I have to have US history because it’s required.

    You need 4 classes:

Take Calculus because its a hard class and it should be A LOT easier to take in HS (I did and all my friends who took it in college didn’t understand it as well as I did, and we are all engineers) Its a tough class, and very different from the other math classes you’ve taken thus far. A lot of majors require calculus for some reason, and if you are going into one of those majors or on the off chance switch to one of those majors while in college you will be VERY glad you got Calculus out of the way.

Skip AP (Honors) US History. There will be other classes in college more interesting than US History. If you plan to get a Spanish Minor or Major take AP Spanish, otherwise skip it too.

So basically, Calculus, Chorus 4, Tech Theater, and AP Spanish (if majoring or minoring) or AP US History if you have to have a full schedule.

At my HS as a senior we had open campus meaning if we didn’t have class we didn’t have to be at school, so I would suggest only taking the first 3 classes unless you plan for a major/minor in Spanish if you also have open campus. If you don’t have open campus, take 4 classes. I assume you are like I was and trying to get as much out of the way before going to college so once you are in college you can take more fun courses. Its a nice idea, but Id be willing to bet you wont need that AP History class or AP Humanities class and maybe not even the AP Spanish class. Its your senior year and you should enjoy it as much as possible, and definitely not spend time on classes you wont need/enjoy.
